The reason why this is a problem is because it gives us imbalance. Our success in that one area becomes a distraction to the things our life is out of balance with.

I liked what you said about defining success on one’s own terms. But also the point about not just being excellent in one field (such as business) and then totally neglecting the social/sexual realm, for instance.
It’s the classic thing to see a guy who has his career/business life down and have achieved all the “right” things but then his love- and sexlife sucks.
And just mindlessly goes on pursuing more “six-pack” and “nice car” and “cool social exposure”, hoping that will do the work.
